Melissa Sherring
I am a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) and have completed a teaching qualification to support the development and delivery of the Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) programmes across the region. I have worked in the field of PBS for 8 years in different roles, including working directly with individuals and their families and providing support and training to families and direct care staff. I have worked with both adults and children with learning disabilities and/or Autism who display behaviours that challenge. This included working in a range of settings including; social care, schools and home programmes. I am passionate about improving people’s quality of life using the PBS framework and developing the workforce to raise the standard of PBS. Currently, I work as a workforce development manager in PBS across Durham, Darlington, Tees, Sunderland and South Tyneside.
As Workforce Development Managers in PBS, we lead, support and shape the North Cumbria and North East (NCNE) PBS Community of Practice (CoP) to improve the standard of PBS provision in the region and thus enable people to achieve a good quality of life.
We support the development of skills, knowledge and values of PBS for everyone involved in providing support for people with behaviours that challenge. This includes supporting the PBS programmes of learning with Northumbria University.
We are committed to raising the profile and standard of PBS across the region and influence the standard of delivery. A key part of our work is to support systems involved in the development and delivery of the PBS framework.
We do all of this in partnership with people with a learning disability, family carers, health and social care.
