Access to Acute Network (A2A)

The North East and Cumbria Access to Acute (A2A) Network is a regional network made up of the acute learning disability liaison nurses across every acute trust in our region which is facilitated and supported by the North East and Cumbria Learning Disability Network.

The A2A Network has been established since 2011 and has led on a range of initiatives in acute trusts to improve the care and experiences of people with a learning disability. They meet 6 weekly with their main focus being on:

  • Supporting the roll out and ongoing developments of the Learning Disability Acute Diamond Standard Pathways and Workforce Education
  • Raising awareness of the Learning Disability Acute Diamond Standards amongst Hospitals Trusts workforce
  • Health & Care Passports
  • Hospital flagging
  • Peer review
  • Improving access, health and health outcomes and experience of acute services for people with a learning disability and their families reducing premature mortality
  • Facilitate / co-ordinate reasonable adjustments
  • Working collectively on regional pieces of improvement work
